Team Rubicon is on an “operational pause” due to thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds expected to hit Faulkner County Thursday afternoon, said Wes Craiglow, public information officer for Team Rubicon Region 6.

The National Weather Service is predicting a chance for severe weather Thursday and Friday as an unstable air mass remains over much of the state.

The main threats will be thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds, the NWS said, with generally about 1 to 2 inches of rain.

The storm is expected to enter the Faulkner County area between 2 and 3 p.m.

“Our concern with more than an inch of rain is flash flooding,” Craiglow said.

In addition to the dangers posed to our volunteer work crews by winds and lighting, Craiglow said, the likelihood of flash flooding is increased due to the vast amount of ground-based debris, which is likely to wash into and clog storm water culverts.

Thursday morning, Team Rubicon dispatched 300 volunteers to communities affected by the April 27 tornado.

“They will remain in the field with Team Rubicon leadership until we have to call them in,” Craiglow said.

On average, Team Rubicon dispatches more than 1,000 volunteers each day to communities in need of repair after the April 27 tornado damaged 24 miles of Faulkner County.

Volunteer Resource Centers will be back open at 10 a.m. Friday. Craiglow said the centers normally open at 8 a.m., but having a few hours in the morning will give Team Rubicon time to establish a remedial action plan.

After this storm system passes, Craiglow said, he hopes the volunteer efforts will be able to go back to full speed.

Prospective volunteers are encouraged to closely watch local media outlets and the Team Rubicon Region 6 Facebook Page for further updates as this weather system evolves throughout early Saturday.
