Conway, the City of Colleges, has been named the second Best Affordable college town to live in by the Great Value Colleges. The national list was compiled by looking at the Council for Community and Economic Research to determine the cost of living scores for each town. The cost-of-living factors look at average costs of grocery items, housing, utilities, transportation and health care within a given area.

For many, Conway is a place of hometown values with the buzz of college excitement, and offers the perfect mix of freedom and safety.

“We are excited to hear that Conway was chosen as a great value college town. Conway offers a variety of choices on many scales, including education,” said Deanna Ott, director of public relations at Central Baptist College.

“Conway being ranked No. 2 on the list of Great Affordable College Towns in the nation is a great distinction and it also affirms what we know - that Conway is a wonderful community to obtain an education, work and raise a family, with many educational, cultural and economic opportunities” said Tom Courtway, president at the University of Central Arkansas.

The Chamber of Commerce echoes these sentiments as well. Brad Lacy explained, “Over the last ten years, Conway has implemented a detailed plan that focuses on quality of place, believing that building a superior environment is attractive to potential students, residents, and businesses. We are building one of America’s next great college towns. This recognition is great validation that the plan is working.”

The excitement of being ranked number two on a national list has brought much pride from university leaders and students alike.

“This is an exciting recognition for the city of Conway and UCA. We are very fortunate to be located in a city that is experiencing such growth and success without the high costs of living,” said Kay Hinkle, UCA board of trustees chair. “UCA also strives to offer an affordable education for the students while maintaining academic excellence. It’s a pleasure to work with the city of Conway to ensure continued success for the community and UCA. We always appreciate their support.”

The city of Conway not only offers a sense of community, but also an attractive set of cultural amenities and affordable activities for a wide range of people to enjoy.

“As a current student at UCA, it is no surprise to me that Conway is ranked 2nd in the nation as a Great Value College Town,” said Ashley Ross, president of the Student Government Association on the campus of UCA. “Conway has been home to me since coming to college, and I know it is home to so many other students. Conway isn’t just “home” because students are housed here, but because of it’s inviting and comfortable atmosphere. The entire town embraces our generation and supports all three colleges in so many ways.”

Hendrix College Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Robert Entzminger expressed that “Conway provides the attractions and the vitality that students are looking for, but also the amenities that make it appealing to faculty and staff.”
